P120
40 Years Ago July 22, 1975
We were so impressed with the style of local TT racer Charlie Brown that
he got on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago. Brown was one of three
Northwest riders to find a spot on the podium at the Castle Rock TT in
Oregon. Mert Lawwill was the first of the "foreigners" in fourth place… The
opening round of the 1975 Inter-AMA MX Series got underway in Herman,
Nebraska, where Marty Smith (125cc) and Tony DiStefano (250cc)
came away with the big wins… Barry Sheene won his first 500cc World
Championship Road Race at the Dutch TT,
topping Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read.
30 Years Ago July 24, 1985
We celebrated Kenny Roberts return to racing at Laguna Seca by putting
him on the cover 30 years ago. We also featured an interview with the
former champ. Randy Mamola won the AMA Camel Pro National… The
250cc MX World Championship visited Unadilla where Johnny O'Mara ran
off with the overall win. He and Bob Hannah split moto wins; Mike Fisher
won the 500cc Support class… Freddie Spencer won both the 250 and
500cc GP rounds in Belgium… We took a
close-up look at the new Elf road racer.
10 Years Ago July 20, 2005
Nicky Hayden was featured on the cover 10 years ago after he won the U.S.
GP at Laguna Seca; Colin Edwards finished second. Eric Bostrom won
the AMA Superbike race, Jason DiSalvo won the Supersport, and Aaron
Yates topped the Superstock… Eddie Lawson was inducted into the AMA
Hall of Fame… We had the first look of the 2006 Kawasaki and Yamaha
motocrossers; not in Kawi's lineup for the first time, the KX125.

Austrian World Superbike, and Mick Doohan for winning the French GP…
Steve Beattie was the talk of the town in Lake Odessa for winning the I-96
Speedway Half Mile… Mike Alessi was
