IN THE WIND P40 TIGERT WINS PIKES PEAK H onda Motorcycles Media Coordinator Jeff Tigert has added his name to the list of Pikes Peak winners after he dominated the 2015 event in the Heavyweight division. Riding an American Honda- backed CBR1000RR, Tigert was unstoppable on the mountain, taking the fastest time in qualifying and finishing the event 15 sec- onds up on second placed rider Travis Newbold (Ronin) with Bruno Langlois (Kawasaki) rounding out the top three. Former Grand Prix rider and motorcycle video blogger, Jamie Robinson, finished fourth on a Ducati Multistrada. "The week was a stressful rollercoaster of highs and lows and lack of sleep," a relieved Tigert said afterward. "Things went really smoothly early on, but my luck changed in my second qualifying run when I crashed and went off the course. On race day I had a lot on my mind and the course was pretty sketchy, but I tried to keep calm and ride within my limits. It's such a unique race, and the competitors are so emotionally connected to one another. It was a big weight off my shoulders when it was all over and I was presented with the checkered flag that goes to the winners." Other winners at Pikes Peak 2015 included: Keith Speir (Tri- umph—Vintage), Nick Robinson (Honda—250), Jeff Clark (Zero— Electric), Yoshihiro Kishimoto (Mirai—Electric Modified), Codie Vahsholtz (KTM—Lightweight), JD Mosley (Triumph—Middleweight), Mashahito Watanabe (Sidecar) and Brandon Tubbs (Quad). The race turned out to be an anti-climax for the Victory Motor- cycle Company and their engi- neering partners, Roland Sands Design with their one-off Project 156 machine. Cycle World Road Test Editor Don Canet qualified the booming V-twin first in the Exhibition Class and was head- ing for a podium finish when he touched the white line at a hair- pin and lowsided at Brown Bush Corner, losing 23 seconds in the process. He remounted to set the fifth-fastest time in the third section of the course before the machine suffered a mechanical failure with less than two miles remaining on the course.
