FLAT TRACK
AMA PRO FLAT TRACK SERIES
ROUND 5/JUNE 28, 2015
ALLEN COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS/LIMA, OHIO
P132
Baker gradually getting the ad-
vantage. Then on lap six another
red. Jake Shoemaker and his
Triumph were down coming out
of turn one. Both Johnson and
Shoemaker walked away from
their falls, but were unable to
continue racing.
On the second restart, Baker
took advantage of the staggered
start and was out front the rest
of the 25-lap national. In the
closing laps, Halbert and Bau-
man closed the gap to Baker by
maybe a half-second, but there
was no catching the factory
Harley rider on this day.
Sammy Halbert and Briar
Bauman finished just 3-10ths
of a second apart in their battle
for second. Bauman followed
Halbert through the field with
two-time Lima winner Halbert
moving up from sixth on the first
lap, Bauman was seventh on the
first go around.
Jared Mees and Jeffrey Carv-
er finished close in fourth and
fifth, respectively. Mees ran near
the front all day, while Carver
charged his way to a strong top-
five from the back of the field,
passing more riders than anyone
else on this challenging day at
Lima.
While the track was relatively
smooth Henry Wiles was up
front, but he struggled a bit more
once things became choppy.
He fell from first to sixth by the
end. Robert Pearson gave the
factory-backed KTM 990 Super
Duke its first top-10 of the sea-
son in seventh. Bryan Smith's
Kawasaki had a throttle stick
wide open a couple of times
during the main. At one point he
nearly pulled off the track, but
he soldiered on, the bike mostly
behaving as he rallied late to
finish eighth to keep his cham-
pionship hopes alive. Brandon
Robinson and Stevie Bonsey
rounded out the top 10.
The series moves to the Du
Quoin Mile next Saturday, July
4. It marks the first return to Du
Quoin in 10 years. CN
