>>MAKING PROGRESS
It's been a roller coaster of a
season for Yoshimura Suzuki's Jake
Lewis. Even so, many have been im-
pressed with the 19-year-old rookie's
progress. So what was Lewis' assess-
ment of his season so far?
"Yeah, definitely making progress
and feeling like I'm riding the bike a
lot better," he said. "But still, I have
up and down weekends and I need to
be more consistent. With two races in
one day it's tough for me. Our bike, I
feel like is a little bit more physical to
ride than the other bikes.
"In race one I'm fresh and ready
to go and I felt like I kind of burned
myself out a little bit too much and
not ready enough for race two. The
speed's close, but I would like to be
up there with Josh [Hayes] and Cam-
eron [Beaubier]. But I'm working at it.
It's a huge learning year for me, and
still not doing too bad in the points."
With this being a learning year,
Lewis is already looking to the next.
"Hopefully next year I can be
running up front," he said. "I feel like
that's where I can be and I feel like
I'm as fast as them. I just got to put
everything together. Josh is so good
and Cameron's really fast too, so just
got to have everything perfect to run
with them."
In the nearer future, the series
heads to Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca—a track that Lewis shines at.
"For sure I'm looking forward to that
because Laguna [Seca], I got my first
win there last year," he said. "Even in
2013, I led into the last two laps and
Cameron got past me. It's one of my
favorite tracks and the speed comes
Roger Hayden (95)
challenged Hayes
(1) in race two, but
unfortunately more
bad luck forced
Hayden to withdraw
and settle for third.
