>>MCALLISTER, ORTT SPLIT WINS
While the other races over the
weekend were processional at times,
the KTM RC 390 Cup was a thriller.
Reminiscent of a Moto3 race, there
were a pack of riders (sometimes as
many as nine) fighting tooth and nail
for the win.
Series-points leader Gage McAl-
lister came away with the win in race
one, by a mere .048 of a second over
Justin McWilliams. Hayden Schultz
was right there as well in third.
"I got a little lucky on that one,"
McAllister said. "I was actually trying
to be in second coming out of the last
turn. Justin [McWilliams] snuck up on
me in turn 14 and kind of made me
second guess my plan coming out of
the last turn. But I was able to get a
good drive and step right up on his
rear wheel and draft him as long as I
could. It was just enough to get by him
at the line. So I got a little lucky on this
one. But definitely this race means a
lot—more mental than it is physical, so
you got to put yourself in the right po-
sition on the right lap to take the win."
The win was McAllister's fourth of
the season and helped extend his
championship points lead. For McWil-
liams, it was the first ever podium for
the 22 year old, who has only been
road racing for a year.
Although race two wasn't as close
across the line, it still was a thriller
with plenty of lead changes and shuf-
fling of positions. This time it was
15-year-old Braedon Ortt who took top
honors, his first in the championship.
Joining him on the podium, for what
was the series' youngest podium to
date was Brandon Paasch (14) and
Anthony Mazziotto III, who just turned
15.
"I think so; I've got to agree with
Beaubier (6) went toe-to-toe with Hayes (1) in race one.
