IN THE WIND P40 LET THEM BE HEARD B eginning with the July 17-19 AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the Superbike and Superstock 1000 race bikes will be noticeably louder. At that race, MotoAmerica, the series orga- nizers, will be implementing a new rule that will al- low the bikes to be much louder, from 107 decibels to 115 decibels. "I've always been a fan of bikes that make noise," Mo- toAmerica's Chuck Aksland said. "When MotoGP went to four- strokes, Kenny, the team, and I were big proponents of letting people hear what those machines really sound like. "Superbikes are the baddest race bikes in the U.S.," Aksland said. "In my opinion, and in the opinion of a lot of other people, the sound that currently comes from a Superbike doesn't identify with its actual performance." "When MotoGP bikes fire up," Aksland said, "you know what to expect. We want our fans to think about Superbikes the same way." "I did a straw poll of the racetracks on our schedule," Aksland said, "and everybody thought it was a great idea. It's good for fans and relates noise to performance, as it should be. Everybody is pretty pumped." Superbikes and Superstock 1000 will have a different sound at Laguna Seca. HAAKER, AARON ANNOUNCE ENDUROCROSS SCHOOL T op AMA EnduroCross racers Colton Haaker and Geoff Aaron announced they are teaming up to offer an EnduroCross rid- ing school. The class, slated to take place on July 18-19 at Colton Haaker's Perris, California, home, will offer riders the chance to learn the fundamentals of EnduroCross and trials techniques. Multi-time EnduroCross winner Colton Haaker and 10-time Na- tional Trials Champion Geoff Aaron will serve as instructors. Training will take place on Haaker's private EnduroCross track, consisting of all the traditional EX obstacles including logs, rocks, matrix, firewood, tractor tires and more. Classes are open to 80cc riders and above. Available as an optional two-day camp, the Haaker-Aaron school not only promises top level training, but games, food, fun and prizes, etc., plus a possible guest appearance by FMF "star" Joey Mac!
