could not fight back. I am
disappointed because
we tried all we could but
in race two it was not
enough. We had a great
race one, and winning is
winning, so it was a big
shame about race two."
A disappointing start
to the day of fourth for Giugliano was
more than made up for it in race two, as
he led for the middle third, after Sykes
had dropped back with his mysterious
rear traction issues.
Giugliano took second but for a time at
least his first World Superbike win (and
what would have been 100 wins for Italian
riders) will have to wait.
"We were so close to the podium in
race one and then got there in race two
but I'm a little disappointed because I
wanted to win here," said the 'other' rider
from Rome. Unfortunately [losing] Fri-
day's session and the fact I couldn't work
effectively due to my physical condition
didn't help us."
A rise in temperature generally helps
the Aprilia and it helped the Red Devils
Aprilia rider Leon Haslam to a strong third
place in race two, after being harried by
that man Biaggi all the way in the latter
stages of race one.
Did Max play nice and not pass him?
Haslam thought not, but knew that he
had been in a fight with his old adversary
and new partner in development of the
RSV-4 FF.
Davies had two strong and maybe even
over-strong races at Misano and he had
to after his gear change system acted up
approaching Superpole and he qualified
on the fourth row. He took a third and
then a fourth on a day when it could all
have gone horribly wrong.
The main event at Misano was, of
course, Biaggi.
The two-time World Champion stunned
the outside world with two Free Practice
top spots on Friday, but in real races he
was sixth two times.
He slotted in behind Haslam in race
one, respectfully it seems, but he over-
took Haslam's teammate Jordi Torres in
race two and almost caught the strug-
gling Tom Sykes after that.
He was only 5.911 seconds from what
"For sure that was a step forward
for us in the race, but I just could
not break down that gap to Cluzel,"
Jacobsen said. "We have to work on
that for the next race but I am pretty
happy with the bike because both it
and the team are working really well.
The bike was a little bit better than me
in the last five laps because all this
year I have been suffering with a little
bit of arm pump. When I go home I am
going to get an operation to fix it and
hopefully come back even stronger in
Malaysia at the next round."
Off podium a superb fight for fourth
place was won by CIA Landlords
Insurance Honda's Gino
Rea who was part of a
seven-rider scrap that saw
the pack finish within 2.1
seconds of each other. A
full 23 seconds from the
winner, however, but this
was old style World Supersport rac-
ing. Evenly matched riders and bikes,
and lots to play for all of them just
before the first summer break starts.
In the championship standings
Sofuoglu has 155, Cluzel 135 and
Jacobsen 115. Zanetti has 97 and Rea
is somewhat adrift now with 80.
The talk of
Misano was Max
Biaggi (3) who
had an excellent
comeback
weekend in
front of the
home crowd at
Misano.
(Left to right) PJ
Jacobsen, Jules Cluzel
and Lorenzo Zanetti top
the podium in Supersport.
