IN THE WIND P24 STEWART STAYING PUT Y oshimura Suzuki and James Stewart have agreed to a "multi-year" contract extension. He will remain with the team beyond the 2016 sea- son, and he says that he will finish out his racing career under the Yoshimura Suzuki roof. "I'm happy to finish out my career with Suzuki," Stewart said in a release from the team. "The team has been very supportive and I can't wait to get back on that bike and be around my guys each weekend. I'm really looking forward to com- ing back to racing. Since I was forced to step away for a time it's made me realize how much I miss it and how much I want to be there. I still have that competitive spirit and want to get back and give my all in the final years of my career. I also thank all the fans and sponsors who've stuck by me. I'm ready to race. I can't wait to see that first gate drop." Stewart's first official race under his new con- tract will be the Red Bull Straight Rhythm event in Pomona, California, October 11. He won the event last year. Stewart will also compete at the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas, October 17. VICTORY IN RACE AGAINST TIME V ictory Motorcycles and Roland Sands Design are working around the clock to rebuild their one-off racer after rider Don Canet crashed dur- ing practice for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Canet lost the front going up the mountain at the Elk Park section of the track, with the ma- chine slamming into the guardrail in the mid-section and bending the bike like a banana. "It felt like crashing in the rain," said Canet. "Grip, grip, grip, then gone. I just couldn't believe it. My next thought was, 'I hope the bike's going to be okay." Roland Sands Design's Aaron Boss summed up the damage. "The guardrail hit the shock perfectly, the worst spot it could possibly hit." The crash destroyed the subframe, ignition, wiring loom, gas tank, exhaust, frame, foot control, front disc, shock, link- age, engine plates, as well as other one-off parts. However, the RSD team is confident they will be at the start line for the Pikes Peak race, scheduled for June 28. James Stewart extended his contract with the Yoshimura Suzuki team. Victory's Pikes Peak project racer was all but destroyed during practice for the upcoming Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
