Our coverage of the 500cc U.S.GP from Carlsbad featured a classic photo of
Roger DeCoster on the cover, but the Belgian did not win the race. Instead,
that honor went to his Suzuki teammate Gerrit Wolsink. But DeCoster did win
the first moto. Shock problems in the second moto ended DeCoster's bid for
the overall win. Brad Lackey finished second in the first moto only to have his
front wheel come apart in the second moto…
Gary Scott won the GNC/Camel Pro Series
Half Mile in Columbus, Ohio.
30 Years Ago July 3, 1985
We tested Kawasaki's latest KX250 motocrosser and featured it on the
cover 30 years ago… We also covered Eddie Lawson's win at the Yugo-
slovakian Grand Prix… Ron Naylor was no match for his competitors at
the Sun Valley Grand Prix in Idaho… We traveled to Hinsdale, Illinois, to
cover the Santa Fe TT won by Doug Chandler… Part one of our two-part
series on Triumph designer Edward Turner got underway… The Harley-
Davidson 883 Evolution Sportster motor got
a close examination by our editors.

Our east/west off-road coverage featured Kurt Caselli on the cover for win-
ning the Washougal WORCS race in Washington State and Juha Salminen
for winning the Summersville GNCC in West Virginia. Chris Carr also got
a piece of the cover for winning the Syracuse Mile… Ricky Carmichael
topped the Budds Creek National Motocross over Chad Reed and James
Stewart; Mike Brown won the 125 class… Privateers Mike Childress and
Mouse McCoy teamed up to win the SCORE Baja 500… The KTM 450
EXC won our big-bore off-road shootout.
20 Years Ago June 28, 1995
Yamaha introduced its 1996 model YZ motocrossers, and we featured the new
YZ250 on the cover, along with World Superbike co-winner Pier-Francesco
Chile and our CCM test bike… Miguel DuHamel took top honors at the AMA
Superbike round at New Hampshire International Speedway… Honda riders
Steve Lamson and Jeremy McGrath were the big winners in the 125 and 250
classes at the Budds Creek National MX in Maryland… We did a "Where Are
They Now" piece on speedway racers Bruce
Penhall and Dennis Sigalos.
