talian apparel giants Dainese
have unveiled the D-Air Misano
racing suit to the American
press, with the suit to hit the
shelves for the public this Sep-
tember.
The revolutionary suit has been
on sale in Europe since 2011, but
has only just received the correct
certification to go on sale in the
U.S. It is the same suit used by
MotoGP riders Valentino Rossi,
Nicky Hayden and Jack Miller and
heralds the start of the airbag era
within motorcycle apparel.
The D-Air suit contains seven
sensors, three accelerometers,
and three gyroscopes within the
hump behind the rider's head.
The system also contains a GPS
sensor, as well as a 2GB internal
memory, a user interface and a
lithium ion battery. These sen-
sors can interpret when a crash
is in progress and will trigger the
airbag's operation. The D-Air can
reach full deployment in just 45
milliseconds thanks to the Cool
Gas Generator inflating the bag,
long before the rider hits the
