IN THE WIND P36 FEBVRE, GASJER TOP WILD MUDDY MAGGIORA MXGP T orrential rain flooded the Mag- giora track the morning of the MXGP of Italy, and although the skies cleared up by the time the racing took place, the deluge left the track drenched and rid- ers caked in mud. And thanks to the clay-base at the Italian venue, the resulting course was an ex- tremely tricky one. While the mud certainly threw the results for a curve, in the end, it was Yama- ha's Romain Febvre and Honda's Tim Gajser who took the MXGP and MX2 victories, respectively. Febvre made it two in a row at Maggiora, round nine of the MXGP Championship. But a crash on the opening lap left him with a bent handlebar and bro- ken front brake. The Frenchman had his work cut out for him from that point on, but in the remain- ing laps, he was able to push his way back up to sixth place. "With [Shaun] Simpson, we came together on a jump and I had to change the line quickly and made a mistake," Febvre explained of his first-lap get- off. "I had a huge crash. I was able to keep pushing for the GP victory. My handlebar was very bent and it was hard on the right hand corners to put my leg out. I had no front brake so you can imagine how difficult the downhill was on this track. I kept pushing Romain Febvre overcame a hard crash in the second moto to take the overall win in the MXGP class—his second-consecutive victory in the championship.
