VOL. 52 ISSUE 24 JUNE 16, 2015 P89 This is the important one. You want to be able to maintain that red line. Go over it and you'll be on your head, go under it and you won't get full brake potential. Using the MSC/ABS system means you can stay as close to this red line as possible without crashing. This graph shows the braking potential of the MSC/ABS system, where a Mue of 1 is dry tarmac, and a Mue of 0.5 is gravel. According to this, at 33-degrees lean you can have 85 percent of your braking force. This is clearly a conservative figure as we were able to pull over 40-degrees and use over 85 percent braking force without washing out. But you get the idea. ABS systems have certainly come a long way since Bosch's first motorcycle system back in 1995. That unit was the size of a small brick and weighed 4.5 kg. Now it's half the size of the palm of your hand and weighs under 1 kg!
