That left teammate Josh
Hayes and Roger Hayden up
front battling for the win. It was
setting up to be a nice last-lap
duel, but it didn't happen. A
couple of riders crashed, there
was fluid on the track and the
race was red flagged and called
complete.
The Hayes victory, combined
with Beaubier's DNF and zero
points (you have to finish two-
thirds of the race to score)
meant that Beaubier's fairly
comfortable lead in the champi-
onship was gone. Hayes pulled
to within a single point of the
series lead. It was good news
for the Yoshimura Suzuki duo of
Jake Lewis and Hayden, who
also moved considerably closer
to the series leader after his fall.
"Roger [Hayden] was definite-
ly good in a couple of sections
and I thought I had a couple of
sections where I was good,"
Hayes said after winning race
oneāhis 75th career AMA victory
spanning all the classes. "I was
struggling to decide how the
race was going to play out, how
long I was going to be sitting
there. The opportunity came

mistake, taking
the race one win
and closing the
gap in the title
chase.
