like he was—and the move has been paying off.
The east-coast native has shown the speed to run
up front, and his fitness is certainly in check. He
grabbed fifth overall in front of his east coast fans.
With a little more experience, he could be an even
bigger threat, as he showed in moto one that he is
not afraid to bang bars with the top guys.
JGR's Justin Barcia got bit by the tricky slick
conditions at Muddy Creek. He showed top-three
lap-time speed, but unfortunately went down
after grabbing the holeshot in the first moto and
finished ninth. He could only better that by one
position in the second moto, despite starting off in
sixth.
"Yeah I'm not very happy with my day, I know I
am a lot better than what I did today," he said. "I
got the first-moto holeshot and in the third corner
pushed the front end and crashed pretty hard.
So I started 20th and ended up in ninth, good
charge, but it didn't show [on paper]. It was just
not a good day today, I struggled a lot today. I was
expecting to be on the podium, I like this place
and have been on the podium here before."
He added, "the slickness was the most chal-
lenging part today."
SOLID BAGGETT
Quietly sitting third in points is Yoshimura Suzuki's
Blake Baggett who, if given a good start, could
be dangerous. Baggett is still adapting to the 450
class and has shown a lot of progress. He has
always been known for his outdoor prowess and
has at times over his career in the 250 class put
on clinics on how to win nationals. This weekend
his 5-3 scores carded him a fourth overall. It was a
solid ride by the 450 rookie.
"I had a tough first moto," Baggett said of his
motos. "I got a bad start and had to come through
the pack and was only able to make it to fifth. I got
a great start in that second moto. I'm hoping to
carry that forward and learn from that.
"I'm starting to figure things out," Baggett
added. "We're trying to make the bike a little bit
easier for me to ride. I'm a small dude, so when
