X GAMES ENDUROX
ROUND 4 / JUNE 5, 2015
CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS / AUSTIN, TEXAS
P78
MEN'S ENDURO X
During practice it appeared that the track favored the riders
with a motocross background, as it featured several large
jumps and rhythm sections as well as a freestyle ramp step-
up jump. But the track still included several log obstacles,
a tricky rock section, tractor tires, a wood pit and a double
water pond that were certainly challenging. Then a quick rain
shower less than an hour before the event made the surface
extremely slick and arguably turned the favor back to the rid-
ers with great technical skills.
Case in point was Colton Haaker. The current GEICO En-
duroCross points leader was expected to be a front-runner in
Austin, but he struggled with mistakes throughout the main
event. He got out to a great start, only to bobble the landing
of the first jump and slip back into the pack. From that point
on, he struggled to work his way forward in the remaining
laps as tip-overs continued to trip him up.
Meanwhile, Webb was making an attempt to run away
with the lead. But the moto-esque obstacles gave a distinct
advantage to Brown, who steadily reeled in Webb. One
mistake from the KTM rider, ironically in the technical rock
Mike Brown ran
solo most of
the race before
capturing his
third X Games
gold medal.
