FLAT TRACK
X GAMES HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLAT TRACK
JUNE 4, 2015
CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS/AUSTIN, TEXAS
P74
tremely, extremely disappointing.
Probably the most disappointing
race for me ever of my career, I
would almost have to say.
"To have that opportunity, and
I kind of made that my goal at
the beginning of the year when I
heard about this. Really had my
sights set on it and really had it
in my heart to win that race."
So it was absolute heartbreak,
especially after running a flawless
race and dominating the field.
"You may only have these
opportunities once in a lifetime,"
Mees said. "You just never know
what tomorrow's going to bring
and to race a race like that and
feel absolutely flawless. A friend
of mine came up and she said,
'man, it was just going to be too
easy, wasn't it?' I said, 'you know
what? You're exactly right, it
was.' I got the holeshot, was ba-
sically just riding around my own
race, pulling away flawlessly,
bike was perfect. Everything was
going so good, so easy it felt
like, and of course something
has to happen like that. I hope
more than anything I can come
back and not win the gold one
more time, but a few more times.
It's unfortunate, but spilled milk
is spilled milk. You got to wipe it
up and just roll on."
In the end Mees has bigger
fish to fry, staying on top of the
competition to defend his title
in the remaining 12 rounds of
the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand
National Championship.
"Hopefully all my bad luck's
out of the way now and put it
past us," he said. "There's a
couple races out there I really
want to win bad so I'll try to put
my sights on those." CN
