him serious trouble, and though
he got back ahead of Andrea
Dovizioso, Iannone—ahead
from lap 10—was harder work.
As they fought, Repsol Honda
teammate Dani Pedrosa had
closed up threateningly. Then
Rossi turned up.
There is only so long that even
Marquez can survive, riding at
the very giddy limit. In this case,
it was 17 laps. Halfway round
the next, the front tucked on the
right-hander exit from the first
esses. For a while, it looked
like he might effect one of his
miraculous saves. Then for a
second time in four races, the
defender was down and out,
with zero points.
"It was a shame about the
crash, because I had already
done the hardest part," Marquez
