III FRIENDLY FIRE
W
ith all the doom, gloom
and negativity each of
us are exposed to on a
daily basis, sometimes it is hard
to find much to really feel good
about. The world, and espe-
cially our country, is so polarized
that one could easily make the
argument that this is a nation
divided and any common ground
that may have once existed
between the warring factions is
gone, or close to it.
That said, I've seen some
things in the past couple of
weeks that not only made me
(and a lot of other folks) happy,
but restored some of my hope
for humanity.
It is better to give than to
receive. We've all heard the
phrase before and, based on my
limited research and three years
of Catholic school, it originated
somewhere in the bible. What-
ever the origin, I believe it is a
true statement that most people
never really consider. At the
risk of sounding like a commie
bleeding heart liberal, I think that
it is the key to regaining some
of the civility that our consumer-
driven society has lost through
the years.
I'm almost off my soapbox,
keep reading, the motorcycle
stuff is coming.
Did you ever give a super-cool
gift to someone that they really,
really needed or appreciated?
Most of us have, and it felt good
to give it to them and see their
face light up. That's because by
doing so, our bodies released
endorphins that made us feel
good—and everybody likes to
feel good, that's why people use
drugs. So, what if all of those
