FLAT TRACK AMA PRO FLAT TRACK ROUND 4/MAY 30, 2015 CAL EXPO FAIR/SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA P108 GRAND NATIONAL 1. Bryan Smith (Kawasaki) 2. Brandon Robinson (Triumph) 3. Jared Mees (Harley-Davidson) 4. Brad Baker (Harley-Davidson) 5. Kenny Coolbeth, Jr. (Harley-Davidson) 6. Jeffrey Carver, Jr. (Kawasaki) 7. Willie McCoy (Harley-Davidson) 8. Sammy Halbert (Kawasaki) 9. Nichole Mees (Harley-Davidson) 10. Mikey Martin (Kawasaki) Briefly... The abrasive nature of the Sacra- mento Mile's racing surface caused some major tire wear during the 25-lap GNC1 final. Many of the top riders reported wearing nearly down to the cords by the end of the race. Tire management was a major factor in this race. PHOTO BY MICHAEL ACCORSI TRIUMPH RESURGENCE A Triumph motorcycle came within 2-100ths of a second of winning the 50th running of the Sacramento Mile. With Brandon Robinson riding the Latus Motors/Castrol Triumph Bonneville, the brand is once again a major player in the AMA Pro Grand National Championship. Robinson led eight laps at Sacramento. Jake Shoemaker is also a talented young rider racing the Bonneville Performance Triumph who could potentially be a rider to watch for as well. With these young and fast riders on board it's only a matter of time before Triumph wins an AMA Grand Na- tional for the first time since 1979. Triumph is one of the iconic brands of flat track racing in America. It's fourth among all manufacturers in terms of AMA Grand National wins with 67 wins. Only Harley- Davidson, Honda and Yamaha have more. The last victory for Triumph came with Brad Hurst's victory at the Castle Rock TT on July 7, 1979. Will Triumph earn its first Grand National victory in 36 years this season? Robinson thinks so. "A lot of people wrote off this bike," Robinson said of the Triumph Bonnev- ille. "It has a lot of power and with the new frame we've got it to handle pretty well also. Obviously we were right there for the win here. Hopefully I can be the one to help bring these guys back into the spotlight." Brandon Robinson was just shy of giving Triumph its first Grand National Championship win since 1979.
