Four laps later he passed the fad-
ing Dovizioso to join the group.
It was a full five laps before he
found his way past Pedrosa, and
was lucky not to get involved in
Marquez's crash a little further
round the lap. Pedrosa harried for
the next three laps, then had to
give best.
In all this, Iannone had been
steadfastly heading the group
since lap 10. Now Rossi was clos-
ing… less than a second behind
as they started the final tour. But
not close enough to unseat his
determined younger compatriot.
Crutchlow had finally got the
better of Smith and was comfort-
ably fifth when with less than
three laps left his troublesome
harder front tire choice "finally
failed me" on the entrance to the
high-speed Arrabbiata 1 corner.
His foot was caught in the bike,
dislocating his ankle.
Dani Pedrosa (26) edged out
Bradley Smith (38) to take fourth.
