BELL TOPS UTAH WORCS
T
he last round of WORCS rac-
ing before the summer break
was held at Iron Mine Race Park
in Cedar City, Utah, May 24, and
the racers were dodging the rain
drops all weekend. Fortunately,
the rain held off for the pro mo-
torcycle race, but the track was
already extremely muddy from
heavy rain over night. For 2015,
a new single-track section was
added for the pro motorcycle
race and the Maxxis WORCS-X
section was back with tires and
logs to challenge the racers.
KTM's Gary Sutherlin
grabbed the holeshot, but he
quickly found himself in a heated
battle with Precision Concept's
Robby Bell for the lead. Bell's
initial pass attempt didn't work
out well with him going down
hard in the single-track section,
but Bell remounted and, once
again, challenged Sutherlin for
the lead. Bell played it smart the
second time around and made
the pass for the lead in the
seventh lap while recording the
fastest lap-time of the race.
Once out front, Bell remained
unchallenged as he went on to
claim his fifth win of the season,
which extended his points lead
to 55 over Justin Jones who
wasn't in attendance at Iron
Mine Race Park, having raced
the Glen Helen National MX the
day before. Bell could wrap up
the 2015 WORCS Pro cham-
pionship at the next round in
August.
"With two laps to go, I did a
little outside inside move to get
around Gary [Sutherlin], and
fortunately, I was able to make
the pass stick, and he couldn't
counter it," said Bell.
Sutherlin's second-place
finish boosted him into the third
spot in the points race.
