RUSSELL RESUMES WINNING WAYS
K
ailub Russell returned to his
winning ways in the Amsoil
GNCC Series. Russell battled
Ryan Sipes for much of the race
before pulling away and taking
the win at the Mountaineer Run
GNCC in Masontown, West
Virginia, May 24.
Russell, on the FMF KTM,
took the early lead, nabbing the
$250 All Balls Racing Holeshot
Award, but later bobbled in a
rock section of the course,
allowing AirGroup/Rockstar En-
ergy Racing Husqvarna's Ryan
Sipes to catch him. From there,
the two traded places a number
of times before Russell took
control and rode away, crossing
the finish line about a minute
and a half ahead of Sipes.
"I was really happy to get the
holeshot today," said Russell. "I
thought I could pull away early
on but Sipes kept on me for a
while. It was hard with both of
us not really knowing the course
those first few laps. Once I
finally got it down, I was able to
pass, pull a gap and take the
win."
Sipes actually led the first few
laps before finally giving way to
the defending champ.
"Me and Kailub had a good
time out front there, that pace
was fun, definitely wore me out
towards the end of the race,"
said Sipes.
Rocky Mountain ATV*MC/
KR4/FAR's Thad DuVall finished
an impressive third place overall
after crashing two weeks ago
in New York, which ended his
day. DuVall started the day mid-
pack, but would make a two-lap
charge to finish in third place.
Grant Baylor began the day
just outside the top five as he
pushed his way through the
pack, just missing out on the
