KTM RC390 CUP IS A GO!
T
he next generation of Ameri-
can road racers will have
their chance to show the world
what they're made of with the
first round of the MotoAmerica
KTM RC 390 Cup this weekend
at Road America.
The one-make, sealed engine
production series is the first of
its kind in the U.S. since the
hugely popular Aprilia Cup of
the early 2000s (not including
the prototype Red Bull Rookies
Cup of a few years back, nor
the spec engine 2015 AMA Pro
Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson
Series), with MotoAmerica
President Wayne Rainey excited
about the burgeoning series.
"One of our main goals in
creating MotoAmerica was to
find new talent and this is the
start of that," three-time 500cc
World Champion Rainey said.
"This is going to give a lot of
young riders the opportunity to
feel the excitement of racing at
a professional event on top-
level KTM RC 390 motorcycles
while competing for a National
Championship. The KTM RC
390 Cup is also going to give
the teams a chance to see new
talent in a competitive environ-
ment. Our goal is to give these
riders the opportunity to move
up through our championship
classes in MotoAmerica with a
goal of making it to the World
Championships."
Riders aged between 14 to
22 from across the country will
do battle on sealed engine KTM
RC 390 machines, provided
with an Akrapovic exhaust from
the KTM Powerparts catalogue.
The bikes will also be fitted with
a fully adjustable WP rear shock
and fork kit, as well as two sets
of DOT-approved Dunlop Alpha
13 tires.
The series will have some
pedigree straight off the bat
with riders of famous surnames
fronting the starter. These
include Cameron Beaubier's
younger brother Ezra, Aaron
Yates' son Ashton, Garret Ger-
loff's younger brother Grayson
and former Harley-Davidson
racer and AMA National Super-
moto Champion Gage McAl-
lister.
Practice for the first round of
the MotoAmerica RC 390 Cup
will start at 9:40am at Road
America this Friday with the first
race commencing at 4:00pm
the following day.
