FLAT TRACK AMA PRO FLAT TRACK ROUND 3/MAY 24, 2015 INDIANA STATE FAIRGROUNDS/SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P88 My Own Race: 6 BRAD BAKER 3 RD It was factory Harley's Brad Baker who caused the four-rider breakaway after the red-flag restart. Baker said he was drag racing Sammy Halbert into the first turn on the start and didn't want to shift. "That kind of messed me up because I had to grab third and fourth and they got a gap on me," Baker said. "It was enough to mess up the people behind me and then I took off and caught them. It kind of gave myself… all of us, some breathing room. I was able to pass Sammy [Halbert] going into three, but it was difficult because Bryan [Smith] was controlling the lead up front and Jared [Mees] was just having to tow in behind him and I was tow- ing in behind Sammy most of the way. We couldn't draft Bryan on the front straightaway. It made it a little difficult, but it was a pleasure riding up there with Bryan and Jared and getting on the podium. It kind of turns my season around after a lot of injuries over the off season. All the hard work and pain I've gone through has definitely paid off." 7 SAMMY HALBERT 4 TH Sammy Halbert was in the leading quartet all afternoon aboard his Briggs Auto/Scott Powersports Kawasaki, but came out on the losing end of the drafting battles on the final lap. "I led a little bit," Halbert said. "And then I got shuffled back to third. I couldn't seem to do anything with those guys. I was right there, but I couldn't really make a move to get in front of them. I thought, 'okay third's not going to be too bad.' I settled into third, doing what I could to hang there, but Brad [Baker] got un- derneath me, and then I slipped off the groove and lost touch a little bit. I was just catching up, but wasn't quite close enough to do anything."
