BMW R nineT QUICKSPIN P112 This motor is a bottom and mid-torque monster! What the bike lacks in top-end over rev it makes up for in pure fun down low. Short shifting is the name of the game with the R nineT as it allows you to utilize the full potential of that torquey power delivery. The sound of the boxer engine is something I really enjoy, along with the side-to-side motion the bike makes when you rev it up at stoplights. It brings a smile to my face every time. Overall the suspension works well. The forks are a little on a little too much bite but once up to speed in the canyons the Brembo units are very confi- dence inspiring with excellent power and feel. The R nineT's seat height, bar position and overall comfort is perfect for my 5'11" build. The lower half of the machine still has that BMW touring feel but the top half gives me that café racer vibe. But I didn't care for the soft rubber dampers on top of the foot pegs though; I prefer a more positive feel from peg to boot. When the road conditions are favorable the R nineT is silky smooth to ride and the fork and shock action is still good on rough and potholed highways. I wouldn't have a problem taking the Beemer on long road trips but the canyons and tight twist- ies is where I most enjoyed rid- ing the naked BMW as it has a real connected feel to the road. The Brembo brakes never cease to amaze and the stop- ping power from the front-end is extremely impressive. At slow speeds the brakes might have gauges are cool but I found the faces to be too busy and the numbers too small, making it hard to do quick glances at speed. Also, not having a gas gauge is a bummer—for a bike that costs nearly $15K it should have one. As a whole, I'm super im- pressed with the new BMW R nineT. It has an amazing look to it that resembles more of a custom bike than something you can roll off the showroom floor and although I do enjoy the look, the engine is hands-down my favorite part of the motorcycle. BMW has done an awesome job in creating this new take on a naked boxer. CN
