a much clearer idea, especially
those in the 450 class—they
now know that they are far off
the pace of Eli Tomac, who
came into the GoPro Hangtown

prepared than anyone else. And
we mean way more prepared.

AMAZING TOMAC
Simply put, Tomac put on a
motocross clinic at Hangtown
and blew away the field, a field
that was made up of mostly
healthy and fired up racers ready
for a new start, not a bunch of
wounded warriors nearing the
end of a long championship.
Everyone was pretty much fresh,
on their game and ready to go,
but no one, not even recently
crowned Supercross Champion
Ryan Dungey, had an answer for
Tomac. Instead, they were left
scratching their heads in almost
disbelief.
Just how badly did Tomac em-
barrass the 40-rider field? He flat
out beat second-place Dungey
by one-and-a-half minutes in the
second moto when the track
was at its roughest, and that was
after soundly trouncing the field
in the first moto, topping Dungey
by 22 seconds. (And everyone
thought that was pretty amaz-
ing at the time.) Dungey did,
however, keep Tomac remotely
close for a while in that moto
before, giving up the fight, most
likely saving his energy for the
more important tie-breaking
second moto. The plan didn't
work. By the end of the first lap,
Tomac was already way ahead of
Dungey and the rest of the pack,
and he never let off in what was

first pro race in
the 250 class.
