MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 1 / MAY 14, 2015
PRAIRIE CITY SVRA / RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA
P62
season long, so going into the
Hangtown opener it was any-
one's guess as to who would
fire the first shot. Of course,
you had your obvious favorites,
like defending champ Jeremy
Martin and some of the hottest
riders coming off the Super-
cross Championship, like East
champ Marvin Musquin and
West champ Cooper Webb,
and Justin Bogle and anyone
from the Pro Circuit team, which
included Adam Cianciarulo,
who was making his debut after
sitting out the entire Supercross
series with an injury. Turns out,
it would be Cianciarulo making
the first move by topping 250
qualifying and getting off to a fast
start in the first moto. Obviously,
he had been working on his
outdoor skills ever since starting
his comeback.
HE'S BAAACK
Cianciarulo led the first six laps
before getting spit off his bike.
After that, we didn't hear much
from Cianciarulo who ended up
going 9-11 for eighth overall. But,
following the race, Cianciarulo
said he was pleased with his
2015 debut.
"My speed was there," he
said, "better than I thought. And I
didn't feel like I was riding on the
edge, that's not why I crashed. It
wasn't because I was riding over
my head. I just got crossed up in
a rut and lost it."
The second moto Cianciarulo
got a bad jump and the result
was a midpack start and a disap-
pointing finish. "Overall it was
a good day," he said. "I felt so
much in control, which isn't bad
after it being 422 days since my
last race; I know my speed is
there and I think I can win."
WHY HE'S CHAMP
Martin, however, proved that he
can still win, but it took him a
moto to do it. He rode well in the
first moto, climbing from sixth to
second, which included getting
around his fast Yamalube/Star
Racing Yamaha teammate Webb.
After that, there was no chance
of him catching Red Bull KTM's
Marvin Musquin, who also got
around Webb for the lead (right
when Cianciarulo crashed) and
never looked back. Musquin fin-
ished about five seconds ahead
of Martin, who was actually
stoked with his ride, especially
the second half of the moto.
Jason Anderson
made his 450
outdoor debut
a good one by
getting on the
podium.
