Husqvarna's Josh Strang was
another casualty. He came into
the race far from 100 percent,
having separated his shoulder
earlier in the week. He got off to
a fast start but was far from full-
race form and eventually pulled
out on the fourth of what would
end up being a six-lap race.
N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha had a
tough day. Two of its riders—Jor-
dan Ashburn and Daniel Milner—
suffered problems that knocked
them out of the race.
KTM rider Steward Baylor
didn't even make it a lap before
his engine let go.
Meanwhile, Russell had taken
over the number-one position by
the second lap, and many were
predicting another Russell run-
away win at that point, but instead
of extending his lead like he usu-
ally does, it was getting smaller
and smaller after Bach had taken
over the second-place position.
By the third lap, the two were
battling back and forth for the
lead, and Russell was having a
difficult time keeping his bike on
two wheels, suffering a few small
crashes.
Eventually, Bach took over
and steadily started pulling away
from Russell. He spent the sec-
ond half of the race in front and
extended his lead. No one was
going to stop Bach on this day.
Bach would take the checkered
flag one minute and 22 seconds
ahead of Russell.
"It's a little surreal," Bach
said from the podium of getting
his first win. "I wanted to be a
podium guy today but realisti-
cally I didn't think I was going to
come out and win, I just wanted
to come out and put a solid ride
in. We stuck to our game plan
and found myself up there with
Kailub. I told myself to relax and
not let it get to me. I've never led
one of these for very long much
less half the race.
"Kailub went down a couple
of times in front of me and that's
Jason Thomas
grabbed his fourth
XC2 Pro Lites win
of the year.
