GIUGLIANO
RETURNS!
The remarkable pre-
Imola story of Aruba.it Racing
Ducati's Davide Giugliano con-
tinued all the way to Superpole.
Giugliano, the most potent
Italian World Superbike rider of
his generation, stuck in a lap
of 1:46.382 on his Panigale to
prove that he lost nothing in
his recuperation period since
fracturing two vertebrae in mid February.
It was the stuff of small legends, having done noth-
ing more active recently than swim half-a-dozen times to
protect his cracked backbone until he got the medical all
clear.
He was stoked about his return at the very top of
a class that he had been
forced to vacate until re-
cently.
"I knew that I could put in
a fast lap—that's one of my
strengths," Giugliano said.
"We can only be pleased
with this result and I think it's
a nice reward not only for myself but also for the team,
the sponsors and all my fans.
"The races will be difficult, especially over race dis-
tance of 19 laps. I did not make a simulation, but maybe
from half distance I will be tired at a certain point of the
race. But racing can be strange and so can riders."
It was a storytale comeback
for injured Davide Giugliano
in front of the home crowd
at Imola.
