citing a broken roll-off system
on his goggles. He finished
third in the race to card second
overall. Despite his runner-up
finish, Nagl did not yield any
points to Cairoli. Both riders left
Spain with 45 points, but Nagl
was able to extend his lead over
second in the championship,
Clement Desalle.
"Winning would have been
perfect but we tied on points
for the victory, so that's close
enough," Nagl said. "I extend-
ed my points lead, so every-
thing is working in the right
direction."
Febvre held on to finish sec-
ond in the moto, amounting to
a third-overall finish with a 4-2
tally, marking the career-first
podium for the rookie in the
premier class.
Desalle missed out on the
podium partly due to a crash
in the second moto. Desalle
went over the bars on the
finish-line jump, and spent the
rest of the race playing catch-
up. He was unable to back
up his second-place finish with
another top three, and had to
settle for fourth overall with a 2-5
score.
Evgeny Bobryshev rounded
out the top five with a 6-4 on the
day.
In the MX2 ranks, Jeffrey
Herlings rode to a dominant
win in the opening moto, but
suffered a hard get-off in the
second race, which hindered
his performance. The Dutch
rider managed to come up with
a seventh-place finish following
the crash, and used his 1-7 finish
for second overall. It was Guillod
who pulled off the win with a 6-1
score—marking his first race win
and career-first overall victory.
Much like in the premier class,
Herlings was able to take a step
forward in the championship
despite his runner-up finish.
"I definitely had a good start in
the first moto, won it and stayed
out of trouble," Herlings said.
"I didn't have such a good start
in the second [moto] and was
around 10th. I worked my way
back up to sixth and then I had
a big crash. But I came back
through the field and almost won
the overall. There's some work
to do, but I still got some good
points for the championship."
Jordi Tixier completed the
podium with a 3-4 finish for
third. Max Anstie and Tim Gajser
rounded out the top-five with 2-9
and 11-2 finishes, respectively.
Jeffrey Herlings
(84) went bar-to-
bar with Aleksandr
Tonkov (59) in
the MX2 class.
Herlings overcame
a spectacular crash
to finish second
overall and extend
his points lead.
