Dry conditions left parts of the race- course extremely dusty, reduc- ing visibility to near zero at times. This was bad news for Bach who started off in sixth place out of the 14 XC1 Pro starters, as he had to deal with the choking dust for the first part of the race. The combination of fast and smooth riding, and some misfortunes of other riders, Bach, however, was able to move his way to the front. Thad DuVall was one of those unlucky ones. He was leading the way after the first lap until brake issues put him into the pits for a lengthy repair. Then things got worse when he crashed, took a shot to the head, and decided to call it a day. He also reportedly suffered bruised ribs and a possible dislocated hip. PHOTOGRAPHY BY KEN HILL S omebody was bound to do it and that somebody was Chris Bach. In the XC2 Pro Lites class, Jason Thomas, on the DirtWise/ Maxxis/KLIM KTM, overcame a mechanical scare to take the win and extend his lead in the championship. The Tomahawk GNCC is a new event on the GNCC sched- ule, visiting the Western New JCR Honda's Chris Bach (9) ran down points leader Kailub Russell and then ran off with the win, the first of his career.
