LORENZO CONTINUES HIS JEREZ BLITZ
M
ovistar Yamaha's Jorge
Lorenzo topped the
timesheets at the first mid-
season MotoGP test at Jerez
on Monday May 4. On his 28
th
birthday, Lorenzo, fresh from a
dominant display at the previous
weekend's Spanish Grand Prix—
in which he took pole position,
a new lap record and a runaway
race win—ended the test with a
best time of 1:38.516 after com-
pleting 52 laps.
"We had nothing special to
test, but we fixed the basis of the
bike for the future," Lorenzo said.
"I think we found out how we can
take profit of some adjustments,
so we are quite confident for the
next Grand Prix."
Second went to Lorenzo's
teammate Valentino Rossi, just
four hundredths off the Span-
iard after 66 laps of the Jerez
circuit. Neither Yamaha rider
had anything new to test, in-
stead the duo focused mainly on
machine set-up. Rossi headed
Cal Crutchlow, who spent his
64 laps concentrating on new
suspension and electronics on
his Honda RC213V.
Aleix Espargaro and his Team
Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR was
fourth fastest after 64 laps as
he searched for a solution to
the chatter that plagued him
throughout the weekend. He
bested World Champion Marc
Marquez in fifth, who only
completed four laps on track.
Marquez briefly tested a new
swingarm, but called time early
to protect his broken finger.
"I put in a few laps basically
just to test out a swingarm,"
Marquez said. "HRC wanted
us to analyze it to find out if we
could use it in the coming races.
We have obtained a lot of infor-
mation for further development
with things that have been a little
bit more difficult, for example
corner entry."
Rounding out the top 10 at the
Jerez test was Tech3 Yamaha's
Bradley Smith, Pramac Racing's
Yonny Hernandez, Estrella Marc
VDS Honda rider Scott Redding,
Maverick Vinales on the second
Suzuki GSX-RR and Smith's
teammate Pol Espargaro.
