P128 40 Years Ago May 13, 1975 The Trask Mountain Two-Day ISDE Qualifier was one of our featured race stories 40 years ago. It was a tough one, too. Wet weather forced the course to be shortened both days and less than half the field completed both days. A win- ner was not yet announced… Jimmy Weinert won the 250 National MX Appala- chia Lake Park in West Virginia; Steve Stackable was runner-up… Bill Conroy won the California City Grand Prix… The 49er National Enduro in California was another tough one with George Hendix grabbing the win… Jaroslov Falta won the 250 MX GP in Austria. 30 Years Ago May 15, 1985 Yamaha's new FZ750 with editor John Ulrich on board at Willow Springs was featured on the cover 30 years ago to accompany our in-depth test on the machine… Jay Springsteen and Bubba Shobert were the big winners at the San Jose Short Track and Mile doubleheader… We covered the Dallas Supercross where Rick Johnson out-dueled Jeff Ward for the win; Bobby Moore won the 125 Pro-Am final… Jeff Hicks won the Vancouver Supercross in Canada… American Danny Chandler won the 500 MXGP in Thouars, France. It was his first GP victory… Lowell Thompson was the top rider at the World Mini Grand Prix in Las Vegas. 10 Years Ago May 11, 2005 A smiling Ricky Carmichael made front-page news for clinching the 2005 Supercross Championship in Houston. It was his fourth career Supercross title; James Stewart grabbed the win that night and Honda rider Andrew Short won the 125 main… Ben Spies won his first Superbike National at California Speedway… Valentino Rossi won a wet one at the World Championship Road Race round in China… Juha Salminen continued his winning ways at the Steele Creek GNCC.
