P
erhaps it was fitting, on a weekend
that marked the passing of bike
racing legend Geoff Duke, that the
main race of the day was a respectful
procession, won at lap record speed by a
rider with an immaculately neat style remi-
niscent of the late grand master himself.
Doubtless, however, a high-speed
cortege wasn't what the usual huge Jerez
crowd—122,551 on race day—had come
to see. But they could be satisfied at
least that winner Jorge Lorenzo on the
Movistar Yamaha was Spanish, while the
smaller classes all went to outlanders.
And that those smaller classes, even
the often dour Moto2, were good races
with thrilling conclusions. More of them
later.
