On lap two, Tomac passed
BTO Sports KTM's Andrew Short
to move into third, and then on
lap three he got around AutoTrad-

Yamaha's Weston Peick.
For the next 10 laps, Tomac
would close on early leader Cole
Seely, and then other times he
would lose ground to the Team

peal that could end his suspension
and allow him to compete in the
upcoming Lucas Oil AMA Pro Moto-
cross Championship, which begins
May 16 at Hangtown (Sacramento,
California).
With the 250 West Series over, Lucas
Oil/Troy Lee Designs KTM's Shane
McElrath made his 450-class debut
in New Jersey. It was also a first-ever
East Coast swing for the TLD team,
and it all went pretty well. McElrath
was impressive in qualifying but
missed out making the transfer to the
main by one position in both the heat
and semi. "It's different only having
four riders taken out of the heat,"
said McElrath. "It's the same amount
of laps, but you have to work quick
and I made mistakes that cost me
the qualifying spot. The semi was a
bummer because I felt like I had the
speed to definitely get through, but
went down. It's all a learning expe-
rience." McElrath rebounded in the
LCQ to take the win. In the main,
McElrath flirted with a top-10 fin-
ish but would end up 11

thankful for this opportunity to race
something different and having my
team behind me and support me was
amazing," said McElrath. "There is a
learning curve for sure, but I think
I was able to show some speed,
and learn from every trip around the
track. Now we'll focus on getting that
first win at the East/West Shootout
next weekend [in Las Vegas]."
Weston Peick suffered a hard crash
during his heat race and was slow to
his feet. He came back for the semi,
though, qualifying for the main event.
Still feeling the effects of the crash,
