WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 52 ISSUE 17 APRIL 28, 2015 P55 Briefly... Discount Tire/TwoTwo Motorsports's Chad Reed did not compete in New Jersey, but he tried. A sore shoulder, the result of a crash last week at the Santa Clara Supercross, kept him off the bike for the afternoon's main pro- gram. He rode the first practice but chose to take the day off after that. Reed is concerned, because the pain is in the same shoulder that has been operated on in the past. He will have an MRI done on the shoulder during the week. Overall, it wasn't a great day for the Discount Tire/TwoTwo Motorsports Team. Reed's shoulder was ailing him and the team's other rider, Josh Grant, was suffering with a stom- ach illness. He skipped the second practice session. Grant, however, trudged forward and was rewarded with a seventh-place finish in the main. This year's race at MetLife Stadium was unique in that the featured pro- gram was bumped up much earlier in the day than usual, with the rac- ing getting started at 3:00 p.m. EST, rather than the standard 7:00 p.m. start. This was done so the race could be shown live on the Fox Net- work during prime time hours. To accommodate the compact day, two practice sessions were offered in- stead of three. The early start didn't dampen crowd attendance one bit; in fact, it might've even helped. The pits were packed all day and more than 60,000 fans turned out to watch. James Stewart was on hand to sign autographs in the Yoshimura Suzuki pits. Stewart is anxiously waiting to hear the decision regarding his ap- guys, the suspension guys at WP, everybody worked their butt off since they got there. I'm sure they worked hard before, but I don't know what they were doing ex- actly at that time. I have to thank them for helping us to look good. "We basically developed two completely new bikes within four years, and I don't think that's ever happened before." Actually, it wasn't quite per- fect for the orange crew, since Dungey did not win the 450 main. That, instead, went to GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac who overcame a bad start to nab his third win of the season. continued on next page
