Cody Webb had a tough start of
his day and was still adapting to
his new four-stroke Montesa.
"I was learning progressively
throughout the day," Webb said.
"The first loop was horrible and I
wasn't having any fun. I couldn't
get anything going. I regrouped
and got going again and learned
a lot the second lap. Switching
over to the four-stroke has been
a learning process, but on the
last lap I was right there. I think I
could have still cleaned the third
loop, but two points is a huge
comeback from 26 points on the
first loop."
Despite his struggles, Webb
came in fourth for the day.
Sunday introduced some all-
new sections. With only about
nine hours showing on the hour
meter on his Montesa Cota 4RT,
Webb shook off Saturday's per-
formance and jumped into the
fight with a great start to the day.
Stage one was a wakeup call
for all the riders. On the first
loop, Webb was the only Pro to
clean the section, with Smage
tallying one point, and the rest
of the pro field taking fives. The
changes to the course brought
some big make it or five it ob-
stacles. Consensus among the
riders was that Sunday's round
was more challenging and many
were feeling the fatigue from the
first day's work combined with
the elevation.
Every pro rider had at least
two fives on Sunday.
After the first loop was com-
pleted, Smage held the lead
with only two points. Webb and
Roper were tied with 15 points
each. Webb continued to meld
with his four-stroke Montesa,
having the best final lap, but was
only able to whittle down the 13
point lead that Smage held, to
a 10 point lead at the end of the
day. First place went to Smage
with 17 points, second to Webb
with 27 points and third to Roper
with 38 points.
