IN THE WIND P40 HAYES TIES IT UP WITH ARENACROSS WIN J ust as it looked like the championship was shap- ing up, Babbitt's Monster En- ergy Kawasaki's Jacob Hayes took his second consecutive win to tie up the Race to the Championship in AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael's Road to Su- percross. At the penultimate stop of the championship the series came to the Save Mart Center in Fresno, where Hayes used a consistent pair of second-place finishes to claim the overall win. The win in the first of two main events went to Hayes' teammate Matt Goerke, who led the charge from start to finish while Gavin Faith finished third behind Hayes. Husqvarna TiLUBE TUF Rac- ing's Kyle Regal, who came into Fresno as the series points leader, ran with the lead pack for most of the race, but made a mistake and went over a berm, which caused him to drop back to 15 th place. Regal finished a distant 11 th place in the first main. In the second main event, Regal got away clean while Kiniry, Goerke, Chris Blose and several other riders got caught up in a first-turn crash. The melee allowed Regal to get out to a solid lead, and behind him, Hayes and Preston Plumb- ing Yamaha rider Ryan Breece battled for second. The pair raced side by side for most of the race, but Hayes was able to hold off Breece to take the runner-up slot behind Regal, who sailed to victory. Hayes' 2-2 finishes were enough to put him on top of the overall podium. Goerke recov- ered from the first-turn crash in the second main to finish seventh, earning him second on the night with a 1-7 score. Breece enjoyed a career-best finish in third overall with his 5-3 finish. Cory Green used an extra point scored in the Head 2 Head Challenge to land fourth with his 6-4 tally while Regal rounded out the top-five with his 11-1 score. Regal came into Fresno with an eight-point lead in the cham- pionship, but his fifth place finish yielded as many points to Hayes, and the two now sit in a tie with only one round remain- ing. In the Western Regional Arenacross Lites Class, Dave Ginolfi enjoyed a wire-to-wire win aboard his College Hunks Hauling Junk/Spinechillers Racing KTM. Daniel Blair and Scott Zont finished second and third, respectively, for an all KTM podium.
