IN THE WIND P28 DAY LANDS MOTOAMERICA RIDE J osh Day will return to racing full time in the U.S. after signing with the Yamalube/Westby Racing squad to campaign the Superstock 1000 class for the remainder of the 2015 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship. Day, who had a good trial run for the team at the series' second round at Road Atlanta, was seen as a natural fit to fill in for the late Dane Westby who passed away last month in a street- bike accident. "Dane [Westby] and Josh [Day] raced against each other, and they were friends," said Tryg Westby (Dane's father and team principal) via team release. "Josh is a talented rider He immediately clicked with the bike and the team, and it showed in his results. Earning the pole and winning race one was solid evidence that we found the right guy. We're looking forward to the rest of the season." The former AMA Supersport Champion has spent the past four years overseas and unfortu- nately lost his Superstock 1000 ride in the Super- bike World Championship when the team's sponsor backed out. With such late notice, Day was left looking to put together funding for a privateer effort before getting the opportunity to fill in for Dane. "I can't thank the whole Yamalube/Westby Rac- ing family enough for this great opportunity," Day said. "I'm really looking forward to riding with them for the rest of the year. It felt so good last weekend to see how much Tryg enjoyed being up on the po- dium, and I want to get him up there more this year, so he can experience that feeling again." Day feels that his experience overseas has helped him prepare for a strong showing in his return to the U.S. "I think it'll really help," Day said. "All these guys you see in Moto GP, and even in the World Super- bike paddock where I've been at for the past four years, a lot of them, the rider depth is so much deeper and everybody is so close on times. I can remember when I was in World Supersport in 2012 and even up to last year, you'd be a second off, but you'd be in 18th place. Sometimes here you can be a second off and still be in the top five. It just depends what track they're at." Andrea Wilson Yamalube/Westby Racing hires Josh Day (00) for 2015. PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRIAN J NELSON
