IN THE WIND P44 GRAND PRIX OF TRENTINO R ed Bull IceOne Factory Husqvarna rider Max Nagl traded moto wins with defending MXGP World Champion, Antonio Cairoli, in the hills of Italy, April 19, beating the Italian KTM rider by nine seconds in the second moto of the Grand Prix of Tren- tino and bringing home the over- all victory for the third time in four races this season. The two GP veterans remain tied for second place in series points, just one point behind RockStar Energy Suzuki rider Clement Desalle, who finished third overall, after battling with Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto for much of the day. The reigning AMA Supercross Champion and Thailand MXGP winner got the short end of the stick in both races; finishing fourth in moto one after getting passed by Desalle, then going down hard halfway through the second moto while dicing with the Belgian. When the gate dropped for moto one it was Cairoli with the holeshot, followed by Nagl and Villopoto, who came within a whisker of wadding it up while exiting the first turn, right in front of Desalle. For the next 35 min- utes, Nagl repeatedly stuck his front wheel in on Cairoli, but was unable to make the pass. "We were having a great battle—I did feel faster in plac- es—but I didn't want to take the risk necessary to make the pass stick," said the German. There was no such problem for Desalle who went back and forth with Villopoto over third before eventually making it stick. Honda's Gautier Paulin finished fifth. Nagl ripped the second-moto start and left the field to fight it Ryan Villopoto saw his championship hopes take a big hit after suffering a crash-induced DNF in Italy. PHOTOGRAPHY MONSTER ENERGY
