Even though he owned the
points lead without winning a
race by round four, it was at the
fifth race that the Red Bull KTM
rider started to actually look like
the dominant rider in the series
that we all know that he can be—
and now is—winning six of the
next nine races. From that point
on, it was clear that the champi-
onship was his to lose. In fact,
you could see the confidence
grow with each race win. Wheth-
er he was getting more accus-
tomed with KTM's new bike, or
if it was his self-confidence that
came with each successive race
win and the feeling that he had
everyone else covered. Either
way, the "Dunge" broke away to
an 80-point lead in the standings
by the Houston round and with
a come-from-behind runner-up
finish in NRG Stadium, Dungey
claimed his second career Su-
percross title with three rounds
remaining on the schedule,
needing only to finish 75 points
ahead of second in points Eli
Tomac, which he did this week-
end with ease. He came into
the race with an 80 point lead
over his nearest rival, Eli Tomac,
which meant a third or better
would seal the deal.
KTM'S FIRST TIME
Dungey also made history in
Houston for KTM by winning the
marque's first ever Supercross
title. (Dungey's last SX crown
came in 2010 when he was with
Suzuki.) The last three years
have been an unbelievable ride
