AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 52 ISSUE 15 APRIL 14, 2015 P85
Briefly...
It was a special weekend for the
Hayden family with the whole clan
there to watch Nicky Hayden race his
200
th
Grand Prix and Roger Hayden
in the MotoAmerica Superbike de-
but. "Yeah, it is definitely really spe-
cial," Roger said. "To have the whole
family here, especially my dad some-
times isn't doing as good as you'd
hope. To get here and let him watch
the whole family race, my two sis-
ters are here and the grandkids and
stuff like that… It's more special for
them than it is me because they get
to come and watch us race. I don't
really get to see Nicky during the
weekend. We both have our things
going on. You never really know
when the last time the whole family
will be at a race together and this is
one of those moments this week. It's
cool because I love having my fam-
ily here because my dad, he's the
one out there taking lap times when
we're training at home and stuff like
that. It's cool that he gets to see. It's
the whole team. What he does helps
me perform better on the track. He's
part of what makes me quick."
Yes, it's early days yet with only one
race weekend under MotoAmerica's
belt, but what did Superbike racer
Chris Fillmore think about the se-
ries racing debut? "I know they're
working really hard," Fillmore said. "I
know everyone's working really hard
and they're spending a lot of money
and they have high hopes for every-
thing. I think everybody in the pad-
dock has a lot of high hopes for them
to make it happen. It was a bumpy
start but it's not a standalone event.
We're with GP and we're kind of at
the mercy at whatever MotoGP says,
we have to do. So it was a tough
event for MotoAmerica to start at... I
think the next couple races will kind
of be more of a telltale sign."
went out, experience paid divi-
dends.
Four-time AMA Superbike
champ Hayes has plenty of that.
When conditions got tough, he
got going, and led straight out
of the gate and never looked
back. Knocking down the laps
in smooth precision, Hayes took
home the first Superbike win of
the new championship. And he
made it look easy.
"Yeah, there's so many things
going on this weekend. New
series, new machine… We've
had some dodgy weather, we've
had good weather, we've had
a little bit of everything. So to
have a successful weekend and
come out of here with the race
win regardless of what happens
tomorrow is fantastic.
"It's our first time at this
venue, and being a tough race
was interesting. I think a lot of it
had to do with, I was prepared,
