CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS

S
o it goes. Marc Marquez goes to Austin,
qualifies on pole, wins the race. Three
years in a row. Sounds simple enough,
but it was not. Bike trouble in qualifying meant
that setting the fastest lap was a major achieve-
ment. Then in the race, iffy conditions and an
ever-present Ducati threat played their part.
In fact, in the end, it didn't take the merci-
less maestro too long to deal with it all. Once the
Repsol Honda had deposed Desmo Dovi's Duke
from the lead—on lap five of 21 of the complex and
highly technical 3.427-mile track—he managed to
pull away steadily and eventually commandingly.
