Cycle News 40 years ago to accompany our test on the Spanish motocrosser…
Kenny Roberts moved back into the Camel Pro Series points lead after taking
the win at the Texas Short Track National in Irving… Johnny Cecotto won both
legs at the Imola 200… With teammates Dave Aldana and Steve McLaughlin,
Kenny Roberts led the way in a Team USA vic-
tory at the Johnny Player Transatlantic Trophy
Match Race in Culton Park, England.
30 Years Ago April 24, 1985
Single-shock rear suspension was the rave in the 1980s and Husqvarna
joined the club with its new 250 WRX, which we pictured in action on the
cover 30 years ago to accompany our test on the new enduro bike… We
covered Bubba Shobert's victory at the Sacramento Mile; Ted Boody and
Jay Springsteen first second and third, respectively… The Brits ran all over
Team USA at the Transatlantic Match Races in England; Wayne Gardner
led the way for the Brit team.

Valentino Rossi got the MotoGP season started with a victory at the Span-
ish GP in Jerez. He shared the cover with Grant Langston, who clinched
the 125cc East Supercross Championship at Pontiac; Chad Reed won the
250cc class… We interviewed dirt track Mike Hacker… We traveled to
Primm, Nevada, and the Buffalo Bill's Resort to cover the Stateline Supermo-
to Challenge that was won by Jeff Ward… We covered David Knight's win
at the opening round of the FIM World Enduro Championship in Spain.

Mike LaRocco made front-page news for winning the Pontiac Supercross in
Michigan. Brian Swink, the homestate hero, finished second; Mickael Pichon
won the 125cc class… Americans Ronnie Tichenor and Jeff Matiasevich
went 1-2 at the All-Japan Motocross Championship; Florida's Tichenor won both
motos… Husaberg's Joel Smets won the opening round of the World Cham-
pionship 500cc MX Series in Portugal, with
American Trampas Parker finishing second…
Ty Davis won the Sawmill National Enduro in
California. It was his fourth straight win.
