MOTOCROSS APRIL 4, 2015 GLEN HELEN RACEWAY/SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA P120 2015 2-S TROKE MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT GLEN HELEN ally. I just grabbed a wheel from Husky and had a tube in it and I was like, 'I swear I'm going to get a flat today.' I had a mousse in it before. But all in all, it was a fun day. I enjoyed riding the two-stroke and I would like to come back next year. It's a lot of fun." RUSK RALLIES It seems hardly anyone was exempt from mechanical is- sues, including Kellian Rusk who rounded out the podium with third overall. Rusk was in the running for the overall after having finished second in the opening moto, and running ahead of Sleeter in the second moto. But he was another victim of hard luck. "I was in position to take the overall win but the bike lost all power," Rusk explained. "There was a bolt, I guess, and if it backs out it can break the motor case open. It broke the motor case open and I lost all my oil. I was able to finesse it for, I think, four laps and kept it together, but I could barely make it to the top of the hill. I'd start at the bot- tom of the hill in third and by the time I got to the top, I'm almost pedaling with my feet. "I was running second, and that was good enough for the overall win, and then that hap- pened, but luckily I only lost two spots. We had a big enough gap on everyone else. The guy be- hind me was closing in, but I kept it together and ended up third." Despite having the overall slip through his fingers, Rusk had an untiring grin on his face at the end, much like his competitors. "This was my first two-stroke national. It definitely won't be my last! It was a great day; two- strokes are way too much fun! [laughs] They're definitely some- thing I wouldn't race competi- tively, but for a fun race, they are the funnest bikes you could ever throw a leg over. They're hard to ride and that's what makes them a lot of fun." BUCK 25 None are more difficult to ride than a 125cc two-stroke, thus the basis of their appeal to many. In the 1-2-5 Pro ranks, it was Johnny Jelderda who took the big win with a perfect 1-1 score despite being another rider who admitted he hadn't raced a two- stroke since his youth days on an 85. "I just came out here to have some fun," Jelderda said. "I rode two solid motos and ended up with the win. With the big hills out here, it was a blast. I couldn't have asked for a better day." CN LA SLEEVE PRO CLASS 1. Michael Sleeter (KTM) 1-3 2. Colton Haaker (Hus) 3-2 3. Kellian Rusk (Yam) 2-4 4. Sean Lipanovich (Hon) 4-8 5. Tevin Tapia (KTM) 9-6 6. Preston Mull (Yam) 6-9 7. Griffin Dexter (Hon) 5-12 8. Scott Champion (KTM) 13-5 9. Dalton Shirey (Yam) 7-11 10. Colton Udall (Hon) 11-10 (L-R) Kellian Rusk, Mike Sleeter and Colton Haaker celebrate on the Pro Race podium.
