He won his heat race (for a
bonus championship point) and
set the fastest evening Hot Lap
time for the second race in a row
(earning him the number-one
gate pick for the main and yet
another bonus championship
point). His Hot Lap run during
the night program was legend-
ary. Not only did the 43-year-old
aggressively clean every section
of tricky obstacles, but also he
eliminated four of them near the
end of the lap by simply jumping
over them. His "quad" of a step-
on-step-off section had the Utah
fans out of their seats, scream-
ing. When he came across the
line in the number-one spot,
the place erupted. Mike Brown
fans were in full force. And a few
more were instantly recruited.
While Brown seemed to have
all the momentum after that,
he certainly wasn't alone in
confidence going into the final
showdown of the night. Cham-
pionship series front-runners
Cody Webb—the defending
Mike Brown had his best race in over
a year with a wire-to-wire win and the
fastest lap times all night.
