Tremaine gave chase. It didn't
take long for Haaker to get into
fourth and start hunting down
the podium.
Halfway through the 15-lap
race Haaker had made his way
into third and was battling with
Gerston and the best ride of
his career. The race was great
between the two. Gerston kept
Haaker honest through lapped
traffic and held his line—the fast
line—every time Haaker made a
move. Haaker made his move
stick over the toughest obsta-
cle—a rising boulder field with a
mind of its own—and started go-
ing faster—somehow—in second
place.
Meanwhile, our points leader
and defending champion was
on a mission. He wasn't riding
like he was on damage control.
He was riding like he wanted the
pass that put him down back.
Unfortunately, he was riding
through the entire pack and
people don't just get out of the
way because of the number one
on your bike. It only took Webb
10 laps to get into the top five.
And by then, he had fallen at
least one more time long enough
to get passed.
Out front, Brown was going.
His all-out blitz had faded to a
consistent Husky rumble through
the tricky sections and traction
(Above) Colton Haaker has a share
of the points lead after starting the
season with consistent top finishes
despite being banged up with
injuries. (Above right) Salt Lake City
was a breakout ride for Arizonian
Max Gerston on the Beta two-
stroke. The EnduroCross specialist
raced onto the podium in third for a
career-best finish.
