conservative so it was kind of
slowing those two up, but that's
what it took. Good start and
consistent laps and not making
any mistakes."
Brandon Robinson was sixth
at the end of lap one and fol-
lowed Coolbeth through the
pack before eventually settling
into fourth, which is where he
finished on his T.J. Burnett
Farms Honda.
Ending the night in fifth was
Robert Pearson on the R&R
Racing Yamaha ahead of Fred-
ricktown Yamaha's Sammy
Halbert. Jake Johnson finished
in seventh on a Hart Racing Ka-
wasaki ahead of teammate Briar
Bauman on a Honda. Rounding
out the top 10 was a pair of Hon-
das—Doug Lawrence and Jake
Shoemaker, finishing ninth and
10
th
, respectively.
The Brothers Powersports
Boughner Racing Honda's Brad
Baker ended the night 12th. The
former champ was looking to try
and salvage as much points as
possible after having his second
surgery to repair a broken radial
head replacement just six weeks
prior to the season opener.
Also trying to salvage points
was Oasis Homes Crosley Radio
Honda's Bryan Smith. Smith who's
been known to struggle at the
Daytona Short Track had to use
one of his provisional cards to
make the main and finished 16th.

For Friday, the AMA made a few
changes to the track, in hopes
of making it less of a one-lined
affair and to make for more op-
portunities for riders to pass.
The changes, especially the
extension of the apex of each
turn, worked for the most part,
and there was plenty of passing
going on and some very exciting
racing. Coolbeth, for one, made
a lot of passes in the main event,
since he was coming from the
second row on the start.
At the end of lap one, it was
Wiles with the lead, followed by
Bauman, Robinson and Cool-
beth. By lap two, Coolbeth was
in the lead and pulling away after
slipping under Robinson in turn
four. As Coolbeth pulled away,
Bauman, Robinson and Wiles
worked out second through
fourth amongst themselves.
For the next 22 laps, Coolbeth
was untouchable, and totally
dominated the race.
At the finish, Coolbeth was a
slick 6.474-seconds ahead of
runner-up Robinson.
