AMA PRO FLAT TRACK
ROUND 1-2/ MARCH 12-13, 2015
DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY/DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA
P48
Daytona when the track is mostly
one-lined, which was the case
on Thursday.
Bonsey got the holeshot in
his heat race and led from start
to finish and he knew he would
need to do exactly the same in
the main event if he wanted any
chance at winning the race.
"I focused and I didn't blink,
I didn't breathe, I didn't move,"
said Bonsey about waiting on the
start for the light to turn green.
"That light went down and I just
knew I had to nail that start. I
got a killer start because I knew
I needed it. Thank God, he was
there for me."
Bonsey jumped out to a quick
lead ahead of Mees on the
Montgomery CC Rogers Racing
Honda and Briar Bauman on a
Hart Racing Honda.
On lap 11, Coolbeth passed
Bauman to move into third and
began reeling in the two front-
runners. Meanwhile, Bonsey
was playing it cool while Mees
looked for a way around.
"I played it safe," said Bonsey.
"I rode every lap probably pretty
much the same lap times. I didn't
make any mistakes. I felt Jared
[Mees] right on me and I just fo-
cused. If I would've had earplugs
it would have probably helped
so I didn't hear him, but I could
hear where he was at on me. I
could tell when he was closer.
In turn three and four I felt a little
faster than him so I tried to get
as much distance as I could
On the first night,
reigning champ Jared
Mees (1) was trying to
pressure Bonsey (80)
into a mistake, while
Coolbeth Jr. (2) sat in
wait for a mistake from
either two.
