F
or the last few seasons the
future of American road rac-
ing has largely rested on the
shoulders of Cameron Beaubier,
but suddenly there's another teen-
aged wunderkind who is poised to
put his name in that weighty hat—
Jake Lewis. Lewis joins Roger
Hayden on Yoshimura Suzuki's
powerful AMA Superbike squad
this season. It's a big step up for
Lewis, one that even a talent like
Beaubier found difficult last sea-
son. Yet his hiring sets up a poten-
tial scenario for Lewis—if he can
come in and be a Superbike title
contender in his rookie season,
he may be instantly considered
on the same level as an American
hope for a future World Champion
like Beaubier.
